Hi, I’m Kevin Ylvisaker with the Smithers-Oasis on the IDEA Channel.
I’m here to present Infusion, one of our great color palettes for 2013. We have 4 color palettes for you, and Loann and I are going to be presenting them throughout the coming months. With Infusion, I want to tell you our bride is very exciting, she’s young, she’s artsy, and she is not afraid to take chances. She is a little bit daring, and she knows what she likes, she’s going to do it her way and not in the traditional way.
So to prove that point with Infusion, I want to show you my first centerpiece. Now this first centerpiece, again, more dramatic, different than we would expect to see in a centerpiece, and the way it is constructed is using OASIS Floral Foam Spheres. I have got the six inch and two four inch spheres, they are suspended on a thirty inch LOMEY Column, and then it is glued into one of the eleven inch LOMEY Saucers using a Universal Piece. I used LOMEY Adhesive, and when you are using the LOMEY Adhesive, that’s going to glue the plastic parts together. Once I glued the structure together, I really just skewered the foam onto the column, and then to keep it from sliding, which it will, I used Flat Wire. I know you can barely see it, and you aren’t supposed to, but I used the silver Flat Wire, and that’s actually just holding each of the spheres up, and it’s all tied together on top so that keeps them in place.
A new product that you are going to see now is the Button Wire. It’s great to use as accessory items, in boutonniere and corsage work, you are going to see it all over this year. So that is the Button Wire wrapped around the lower sphere. I finished it off with some of the pieces of the one inch silver matte wire, which is also what all this is constructed out of, if you are wondering “What is this sheet metal Smithers is carrying?” No, we are not. I made this. This is two pieces of the one inch silver Matte Flat Wire, and they are glued together using UGlu Adhesive strips, and then once I ran the UGlu strips down between the two of them, I then placed another piece of Flat Wire on top. That gave me that wider belted wire, which really works great to frame my centerpiece. Try something different, this is the color palette to have fun with.
Now let’s move on to the piece up front here. This is done on one of the OASIS Standing Spheres. The Standing Sphere comes in six and eight inches, and it’s great because it has a flat waterproof base, so again it just looks like it is almost a part of the table, which is really the look we are going for. I don’t need anything under it, because after I have let it dry and drain, that protects the table. So in the Standing Sphere, I have inserted my carnations, and then I came in with the Midollino and just done some fun loops around and into it, and again we want something that matches the whole look of our wedding. After I have inserted the Midollino, then I came in with the Button Wire. That exciting Button wire is just wrapped around and over the carnations, and I think you are really going to enjoy that look as well, so try it, try something new, try the different sizes. When you go to the website you are going to see how we have done this in all kinds of different looks.
Next, I have got a bridal Bouquet. Now, we are seeing larger bridal bouquets and I want to show you this one, and I will actually show you the back, this is our European Bridal Bouquet Holder, we have them in round and square. You can see what a beautiful look this gives. Now, just because it is a young, kinda fun, energetic palette, doesn’t mean we can’t have something that’s a little more traditional look, like a Biedermeier, which is really what this style of design is. Done the Biedermeier, all of the flowers are put in in concentric circles, added the Button Wire, and then look at how I accented this, with some of the Retro Flower Pins. These are the LOMEY Retro Flower Pins, great colors, great fun look, and again that makes my bouquet a little more youthful.
Moving on to a little more of an art bouquet, that’s the front bouquet here, let me show you this one. Now this is in one of our new bouquet holders, and we are doing them in clear, how exciting is that! You know we have had the white, now we have moved to white. Both of them are being made with a much more durable, stronger plastic, so I like that as well. We have got a new size as well, it’s petite, it is smaller than the medium, and you are going to enjoy that as well. I took the Aluminium Wire that you have come to love over the years and I made a square, a circle, and another square, and just bound them all together, and used them as my bouquet collar. I put the bouquet holder through there, and I have actually used UGlu to glue this and secure it in. I then put all the flowers in and you can see what a beautiful bouquet I’d have for my modern bride.
Another fun bouquet is this one here. This takes a little more time, I’m not going to fool you here, when we start doing these more artistic and artwork bouquets you have to charge for labor, but again it looks like nothing else out there, it’s that thing that you have to do. I’ve done this nice weave using the one inch and half inch Regular Flat Wire in the Strong Pink and the Apple Green. This has also got one of the new clear holders, see, it just disappears, and I don’t need to finish that off, it’s a bouquet I wouldn’t finish the handle on. I’ve done just a nice little mound of flowers in the center, great colors, here again are the LOMEY Retro Flower Pins, and then I put in a great cascade trail of the Button Wire, and I don’t need to do anything more to that.
If you really want to have fun, you can take the UGlu Strips and peel off the backing, and then glue buttons and Midollino leaves, anything you want onto it as I did here, and then simply peel the backing off, and then when you get to the event, you simply stick that right onto the tuxedo for the evening. That is not going to go anywhere, and you can dance all night long, it’s not going to fall off, it is not going to ruin the jacket. We are gluing the buttons, UGluing that is, not OASIS Floral Adhesive, don’t get me wrong. We are going to glue that right on and look at how fun it becomes. I have got another one here, just using the one inch Flat Wire in Strong Pink and a little bit of Flat Cane, and then I have taken a couple of the craspedia and glued those on. All UGlued, seconds to make the boutonniere, and this is the trend look. I really hope that you try some of these.
This bouquet that I am going to show you is the last one on the table. This is one of our scepter bouquets, this is taking one of the LOMEY Columns that I showed you earlier on the first design, and wrapping it in Aluminium Wire, Mega Wire, Flat Wire, and then the Mega Beaded Wire, all around the column. I made my own bouquet collar, and I left a hole in the center, put one of our new bouquet holders into it, and then did this beautiful orange arrangement. I think you are going to like it. Again, it is not for every bride, it’s for that special bride.
The last thing I am going to show you is this cake right here. Don’t be scared, I know it is kinda bright, but this great bright pink cake needed bright flowers, so I popped it up with some really bright flowers like Gerberas, which we know the young people really love. I added accents to it, came in again with the Midollino, just to bring layer upon layer, and bring the eye through the cake as well because you really are creating an arrangement.
So, if you like these ideas I really hope you watch the others. I hope you have enjoyed Infusion, I’m Kevin Ylvisaker, here with Smithers-Oasis on the IDEA Channel.
